2008 Letter to Coaches about meeting

 
Attention Coaches,

 

Even though there is snow on the ground softball is in the air.  This
year's coach's meeting is TUESDAY APRIL 1st 7pm at Word of Life church
in Henrietta.  

 

There are a few changes from past meetings so please note:

 

*	You must have either a coach or a representative at the coach's
meeting to participate in the church league.  We have important things
to discuss so every team needs to be on the same page.  Simply put... NO
coach or representative NO team!

 

*	Any new information such as email address, changes in your
team's contact person is to be given to Spud ASAP.  This will help with
our communication.  His email is spud2@davelochner.org 

From Andy Britton:

*        I have to assume the cost right now since I don't have the
number of games or latest catalog yet, but I would say $55 or $60 if you
need extra league supplied equipment.

*        The league will furnish the balls, strike mats, base stakes,
cones (8/ team), and an extra first base; however, teams MUST inform me
of their need at the time when they send their money, otherwise it is
expected that they have their equipment already. If they do not have the
basic league provided equipment and they do not inform me in a letter
when they send me their money, they will be forced to purchase their own
equipment and it must match the leagues standard equipment (other than
the cone style). 

	*	As far as the cones- They are MANDATORY - two for each
foul line and two for each out of play line. I know some teams have
other objects that they like to use as markers which are fine when you
are used to playing on the field all the time. By having a consistent
marker at all fields, there will be continuity for all umps to follow
regardless of the field they are playing on. The other permanent markers
are still useful, but the (8) cones are required as minimum demarcation
devices for all fields. 
	*	As for base stakes- If the field does not have permanent
bases or post style bases, the bases must be fastened to the ground with
(2) base stakes per base. Two many injuries have come from bases sliding
out from under people or 'swiveling' base (when there is only one stake.

*        All other field equipment must be supplied by the team and be
in safe working condition. If they do not have the proper equipment or
if it is in poor condition, they should call me before they send their
money and I will quote them the cost of replacement equipment, they can
then send the extra money when they send their league fee and I will
purchase their replacement equipment as well. 

*        Teams need to have the money to me by March 18th (that should
be sufficient enough time):

*        All preexisting teams must have a backstop this year for the
safety of the players and fans (and everyone was made aware of this rule
coming last year), new teams have a one year exemption.

*        These equipment items will be on the report cards this year
(hopefully) so teams will be penalized for not having the proper
sporting / safety equipment.

 

We might have a few more teams join us this year so it is important for
us to meet and discuss this season.  Email me with any questions and to
let me know you or a representative will be coming to the coach's
meeting.
